Chaper 6 - Audience Interpretation

when my media group when to the Tate Modern art gallery we saw a film by Paul McCarthy and we all had different reactions and thoughts. Some found it funny and others found it disgusting and unwatchable. This may have been because different people have different views and maybe are used to seeing the things in the film so are not shocked by the content. If you don't like being in dark rooms watching a film with nudity in it might make you uncomfortable. The way you interpret a piece of art depends on many things. Everyone has different experiences in life and this determines how you react to different things.
Paul McCarthy made this film for a reason and intended on his audience to feel a certain way or react in a way that he wanted. However you may watch the film and react in a different way and i dont think that matters as you cant say for sure that everyone will react in the way the artist wanted. As long as a piece of art had a impact on the audience i dont think it matters.
